Hi Rocky Store Skiing Report:
March 5, 2010
This has been a great year for snow in the Arkansas Valley! There are many trails open and the snow conditions in the Hi country is great. Places like Cottonwood pass, North Cottonwood, Independence pass and St. Elmo are all good places to ski. Independence Pass and North Cottonwood has less snowmobiles so they give you a little more solitude. There is also some good snow down a little lower this year openeing up some new areas for skiing. The back trail on the south shore of Twin Lakes is a nice and easy ski that you can do from the lower lake or at the Willis gulch trailhead. The road and trail up to Mt. Elbert trail head is a great ski and there are lots of different trail that you can follow in that area. Just turn right off of Hwy 82 at the Lake View Campground Sign and follow the road to the top of the hill and the parking lot. The warm weather this week has made the snow conditions a little more difficult but we are getting some fresh snow today so that should help. |
