Hi Rocky Store Skiing Report:

February 27, 2008

This has been an excellant year for snow in the Buena Vista area. We have had more snow this year in the Upper Arkansas Valley than in the last 30 years. The south fork of lake creek was very good skiing last weekend and the snow is really great. Some of the best places to ski are Old Monarch Pass, South fork of lake creek above twin lakes, the trail on the backside of twin lakes makes a great ski. Cottowood pass and North Cottonwood are also great places to ski. There are many areas in the lower elevations that are good skiing for the first time in many years. Browns creek and Fooses creek are very good right now and are a great beginners trip. We have had a lot of winds down in the valley, but the mountains are usually less windy and fewer drifts. With the warm weather the snow may be a little slushy, but the higher up you go the cooler it is and the better the conditions.

There is some danger of avalanches, but the areas I mentions are the safer areas for cross county skiing.
