BUENA VISTA AREA HUNTING REPORT
October 22, 2009
The first rifle season was difficult to say the least. The elk were hard to find and were not in their traditional places. The second season started out hard as well, but the snows have pushed the elk down now and they starting to show up in the valleys where they are more accessable. There is fresh snow in the mountains and the elk have moved into the winter range making them much more accessable. Many are on private land, but are moving into the forest during the day in the early morning. There are a lot of elk in the Buena Vista area and the hunting has been very good this week. The deer are down also and can be found in the lower foothills. The next rifle seaon starts on October 31st and this should be the best season yet. The snow is really moving the animals around and the weather is perfect.
